Our Process

Our Blue Sky Landscaping team members will develop a plan that fits your overall concept. Landscape renovations are a dramatic way to enhance the look and value of your home. We assess the strengths and weaknesses of your home-site and offer solutions for making it more inviting, aesthetically pleasing, and functional.

Initial Email/Phone Consultation

Our process begins with an email/phone consultation where we discuss your goals and visions and also define the scope of work, budget, and timeframe for the project.

Your Designer/Estimator can be most efficient if you electronically provide site photos, copy of the property plat, and a description of your landscape goals. If you do not have a copy of your property plat, your designer can take measurements and generate a base map for a fee. Any background information that can be provided will help in the decision-making process. The following questions will help streamline the meeting and will ensure your landscape Designer/Estimator is in line with your wants and needs.

  • What’s your main objective or current situation?
  • Are you looking to solve or correct an issue?
  • Do you have specific likes and dislikes that we should know about? Are there certain materials, plants, or even colors that are definite favorites, or choices we should avoid?
  • What is your project budget?
  • Are there young children and/or pets at home? Is there anyone with a disability or perhaps older family members who need special considerations?
  • Who will use the space? Will it primarily be your immediate family or do you often host company?
  • What level of maintenance are you most comfortable with? From here, your Designer/Estimator will schedule an on-site consultation with you to gather more information about the project.

On-site Evaluation Meeting

During the initial site visit, our staff will document the site and discuss potential design solutions with you. You and your Designer/Estimator will discuss and establish desired goals and preferred style. We encourage you to share your vision of your site with us, as well as your likes and dislikes. We will ask questions about the history of the property, discuss water movement, and anything else that may affect the end design. After your Designer/Estimator walks the property with you, they will spend more time walking the property to gather measurements and take pictures. Photos taken are for estimating purposes only.

Proposal Presentation

Following the on-site consultation, your Designer/Estimator will prepare a plan and proposal for presentation where the design and scope of work are communicated. Your proposal will include general information noted during the evaluation, loose conceptual ideas and/or other visual documents. Your designer wants to ensure that you are comfortable with the general concepts, costs, and will discuss all of your questions during this phase. Scaled drawings and renderings can be provided for a fee. You should receive your proposal within 2-10 business days. Presentation time of the proposal varies depending on the overall scope of the project and the demand for our services at that time.

Landscape Design Service

For a more detailed plan, a landscape design may be the best option for you. A comprehensive design will take far longer than a consultation. Designs are well worth the investment to ensure the maximum function and aesthetic of the site. This plan is typically a complete plan of your landscape project which includes all design elements. There will be a detailed layout of all hardscapes beds, plants, and lighting features. The Designer/Estimator can present this in person or PDF via Zoom, with an explanation of the intent and how the design meets your goals.

Many projects do not require a design. A detailed proposal can still be provided if an agreement is made on the basic ideas, location of elements, plant list, etc. A large number of our landscapes proceed this way.

Proposal Acceptance and Phases for Installation

Upon proposal acceptance, the project is posted to our installation schedule, preparations are made to acquire materials and coordinate utility marking. Final decisions regarding materials and colors also will be made at this time.

Now it is time to implement the plan. Depending on your budget, site conditions, and season, we may suggest breaking your project up into phases. Your Designer/Estimator can help you determine the best way to proceed in phases, if applicable.

Construction and Completion

Construction begins! Your Designer/Estimator, along with the Project Manager and Crew Leader(s), walk through the project before installation to review the scope of work. Construction begins and an orderly job site is maintained throughout the process. As needed or requested, your Designer/Estimator and the Project Manager can provide regular progress meetings throughout the construction process. A final walkthrough is made available to the client upon completion. Your Designer/Estimator will inform you how to maintain your new environment, lights, features, and discuss maintenance options.

Maintenance Plan and Service

Maintenance is the most overlooked part of a landscape or hardscape installation. Your landscape Designer/Estimator is an excellent source for your landscape management plan. They will address regular maintenance as well as how to respond to more serious issues that may arise. Blue Sky Landscaping does provide complete property maintenance services.
